The first reason that I recommend choosing Pittsburgh as the destination of your family trip is because of the travel deals that are available. I meant exactly what I said in the title of this post. In just over three months, I am going to be making a move. The reason I am moving is because I received a major promotion at work, so I am going to be relocating so that I can work at my company’s headquarters. Since you are probably curious where I am actually going to be moving to, the answer to that question is Pittsburgh.

I have always thought that I work at a great company, but seeing how they have helped me handle this transition has made me believe that even more. To begin with, once they told me that I had received the promotion, they flew me out to Pittsburgh, gave me a rental car and allowed me to take plenty of time to find a new apartment. Once I actually make the move to Pittsburgh in three months, they are also going to pay for all of the costs associated with moving my belongings to Pittsburgh (including my car, since I am just going to take a one-way flight down there). When I have told all of my friends about the great treatment I’m receiving, they are all extremely jealous!

For many people, the New Year is a great excuse to get very drunk for a couple of days and do as much partying as possible. While this is how I rang in the New Year when I was younger, as I have gotten a little older and at least somewhat wiser, I have realized that this is not the way that I want to start off each New Year. I definitely think that it can be a lot of fun to celebrate this way, but I also think that what you do on the first few days of the New Year sets the tone for how you are going to spend the rest of the year.

Because of this, I have started a new tradition of traveling to Pittsburgh before the New Year and welcoming the New Year with a quiet celebration among my family. Although this may seem boring to you, I actually enjoy it a lot, and it gives me a wonderful opportunity to clear my head and focus on what I want to achieve during the upcoming year (instead of stumbling around in a drunken haze).
