If you plan to tour Pittsburgh with your children then it is a good idea to map out the child friendly tourist attractions before you get there. When traveling with children, especially if they are small, it goes without saying that you’ll need a rental car. There are three attractions that are specifically highly rated for children. They are, Kayak Pittsburg, the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium.
Kayak Pittsburg is best suited for older children who have the strength to paddle. It is located on the edge of the river directly underneath the PNC ballpark. You can rent a kayak for 3 people for under $50. Paddling up the river affords you a beautiful view of the scenery.
The Children’s Museum offers many activities for small children. There is a room dedicated to Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, a theater and a special room filled with optical illusions that kids just love. There is even an open are for creative play. All in all, a good choice for small children.
The Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium is a good choice for small and older children alike. Not every zoo has an aquarium section which is what makes this zoo unusual. Parking is ample and a favorite area is on the Water’s Edge where you can get close up and face to face with the Polar Bears.
